We are pleased to announce we have recently appointed Jim Gardner as our new Chief Executive. Jim has been our Interim Chief Executive since February and he’s made a fantastic impact in his leadership so far.

Jim has twenty-five years’ leadership experience in the Third Sector and Education Sector. Before he joined SUSU, Jim was the Chief Executive of Kent Union, a large students’ union which is included in the Sunday Times 100 Best Not-for-Profit Organisations to Work For 2020 and the preceding 10 years.

Scott McCarthy, will be stepping down from his role as SUSU CEO on Friday 28 February 2020 after leading SUSU for five years. Scott will be starting a new opportunity in a sports management start-up company.

Scott commented:

“It has been an honour and a privilege to work at SUSU for the past five years.  The Students’ Union sector is unlike any other and I was wholly impressed by the thousands of energetic young people who make this Union work every year, at every turn.

Last week saw us wave goodbye to our Chief Executive, Jaki Booth. Jaki has run the organisation since 2009, totalling almost five years of hard work with SUSU. In that time, we have seen SUSU welcome several novel and engaging projects that really set our union apart from others in the country. SUSU has also continued to grow and develop into the vibrant student-focused, and peer supportive organisation that it is today. This has led to us being awarded silver after an ‘Investors in People’ assessment, a high achievement indeed!
