Last week we spoke to Katrina and Rachel, the President of the Union’s ladies football club (SULFC) and the 2nd Team Captain, following the start of the BUCS and FA outreach programme.

We are delighted to announce that Ladies Football Club (SULFC) have begun to to deliver free football to local schoolchildren across Southampton.
The outreach programme is designed to encourage the club to expand their football provision internally and out to the community. Eleven members of SULFC are signed up to the programme, which is open to Key Stage 2 girls at three local Southampton Primary schools: Bassett Green, Bitterne Manor and Beechwood Junior. All sessions are free for students to attend and are run as after-school clubs.

Last week we caught up with the lovely President of the Feminist Society, Emily.
According to Emily, the Feminist movement strives for equality and justice for people of all genders. It explores and questions gender inequality, but, as Emily commented, it’s important to be mindful that people are affected by inequality differently. By this, she means that the level of discrimination someone faces is often influenced by factors beyond their gender too, for example their race, sexuality, class and where in the world they live.

Southampton University Symphony Orchestra (SUSO) has appointed Music Director, Susanna Riddell as part of the launch of a new era.
Our student-run orchestra, which first launched in October 1919 as an orchestral society at the Hartley University College (now the University of Southampton), celebrated its 97th birthday last month.
With over 90-strong members, the student group continues to provide opportunities to study and perform some of the most challenging symphonic repertoire. Membership consists of students studying a wide variety of subjects at the University of Southampton ranging from mechanical engineering and medicine, to music and archaeology.
