Hello! Samuel Dedman here – your neighbourhood VP Education for 2017/18. Recently the Education Zone (the Union committee which I chair) opened up some consultation about study space provision across the University. Spaces such as these are the cornerstone of academic study while at University, and therefore it is an important element of the Zone’s representation work to ensure that they are as good as they can be. I’m pleased to say that the results are in and we’ve already been hard at work putting some of your suggestions into action. Our consultation work included a couple of different activities, … Read the rest

The brand review discussion started back in June last year. To ensure follow the right process and have the right expertise, we decided in December to appoint Holdens’ branding agency to carry out a review of the SUSU brand.
Holdens’ is one of Manchester’s leading creative agencies and brings a wealth of experience to the project, having previously rebranded Manchester Metropolitan University Students’ Union and worked with a variety of companies such as Kellogg’s, Manchester United, SWI and The Duke of Edinburgh Awards.
We carried out a detailed consultation process which involved students, staff and University partners. We ran surveys … Read the rest

Since December we have been working on a review and now a rebrand of SUSU.
It’s been quite a journey! We’ve completed surveys and workshops involving both staff members and yourselves and we’ve made visits to Holdens’ branding agency in Manchester to discuss some interesting concepts discussed along the way.
Since our last update, Holdens’ have been working on getting together a set of branding guidelines to help us implement the new brand. This includes how to use the brand in order to reinforce who we are based on everything we learned during our consultation process, which saw 10% … Read the rest

The last couple of weeks have been a great step forward in rebranding the Union.
We would like to thank you all for filling out the survey and coming to our various rebrand workshops last month. 2,500 (10%) of you got involved to tell us what you thought and a further 150 of you came to the Ted’s Talk events hosted by Holdens’ in January.
As you may know from our last update, some of the Students’ Union team including our in-house designers, spent two days in Manchester visiting Holdens’ HQ at the end of last month to come up … Read the rest

We are currently working on a Communications Strategy to review the way we communicate both internally within SUSU and externally to you. Do you get the information you need when you need it? Tell us at one of our FREE Comms Workshops…
By taking part, you will be actively involved in improving the way you receive information from us, both in terms of content … Read the rest

Recently we told you that we were reviewing different areas of the Students’ Union in line with our Vision 2020, a strategic plan designed to position us as one of the top students’ unions in the UK by 2020. Here is a key update on the SUSU brand review…
Why do we need a brand review?
The decision to review the SUSU brand is a logical and important part of the change process as we commit to gaining a deeper understanding of our 23,000 strong membership, which includes a large population of mature and international students.
