Did you know rock royalty once took to the stage at the University of Southampton Students’ Union? 45 years ago, Led Zeppelin performed in Garden Court and we are celebrating this anniversary with a brilliant Charity Showcase!
Led Zeppelin performed a one-off gig at the Union in 1973 especially to gain an audible recording and footage of a live performance – Garden Court has some particularly good acoustics! Their main tour date in Southampton was at the Gaumont Theatre (now the Mayflower Theatre).
Surge Radio are embarking on their annual 48 hour broadcasting marathon on Thursday to raise money for Comic Relief.
The marathon, which will be broadcast live outside the Union building on the Redbrick, is due to start at midnight on Thursday, ending 48 hours later at 00:00 on Saturday 25 March.
The 40 strong team of volunteers aim to raise £480 for Comic Relief in association with RAG (Raise and Give) society through a series of competitions, on-air challenges, and games.
The marathon will be broadcast live on the Surge website, but can also be followed across Surge’s social … Read the rest

The Students’ Union is full of weird and fun facts that you may have never known about…until now!
Let’s start with one of our favourites…we have our own cat called Susu!
Susu is a stray cat who has adopted the Students’ Union at Highfield as her home – you can often see her chilling on the sofas by The Cube being cuddled by students.
In preparation for Freshers’, we ordered over 7,000 pot noodles to give away to this year’s intake!
True story – don’t say we don’t spoil you.
In last year’s Union elections, Private Rented are the JCR
On Thursday June 4th we will be putting on a mass showcase of societies across the Creative Industries Zone. Whether you want to show off what your dance society can do, showcase your magazine’s latest issue or hold a massive picnic, there’s a spot for you.
The Creative Industries Summer Showcase is the place for societies across the spectrum to exhibit, perform, and quite rightly show off all their amazing work. There are already some amazing ideas that we’re so excited to see put into action, but there’s still space to squeeze in a few more societies.
It’s almost upon us again: Elections season 2015 kicks off on Monday 12th January at midday, when the nominations will open online.
To kick off the nomination period, your Vice President Democracy and Creative Industries, Megan Downing will be taking over our Twitter from the moment they’re open for a live Q&A session, answering any queries from hopeful nominees as well as from anyone who wants to know more about the elections season ahead. You can nominate yourself and find out more at susu.org/stand.
