Waste not want not! The perils of best-before dates

In General

Let’s start off with some stats to surprise you:


  • 16% food we take home from a shop, we throw away.
  • Equates to £15 each week (average household).
  • 50% of total food wastage comes from our homes and 50% of our wastage is actually edible!


  • Huge environmental damages – the process of landfill degrades the land, pollutes with toxic gases and uses up scarce resources.


  • Waste reduction
  • Save money
  • Improved environmental conscience
  • If we ate all the wasted edible food, the environmental impact would be the same as taking a quarter of all cars off the road!

Shift Your Stuff

Following on from the success of our first collection of unwanted goods as part of our Shift Your Stuff campaign, the second collection will be taking place tomorrow, Tuesday 30th June.

The Shift Your Stuff campaign is designed to help you clear out any bits that you no longer need or want and then rehome them with people or charities, such as incoming students, animal shelters or homeless shelters, that can make good use of them when you no longer need them. SUSU awarded silver Investors in People award

In General

We are pleased to announce that we have just been presented with the Silver award from the business improvement programme Investors in People (IiP).

The programme aims to measure and improve working culture, employee engagement and effective leadership in an attempt to realise the potential of the people within the company and improve overall standards.


IiP assessor, Janet Duncan, said that it was the quality of relationships between staff, and the fun and vibrant atmosphere which gained the organisation the impressive award. The flexible work arrangements offered by SUSU were also praised for creating a friendly work environment.

Register to vote in the EU elections

In General

The EU elections will take place 22 May, if you are eligible to vote you should by now have received a polling card and details on how to register. Still unsure how to proceed? Click here for a helpful run-down of the process. Registration closes 6 May, so make sure you have by then!
