The Student Film Festival 2017 Launches on Thursday

In General

The Student Film Festival returns to Union Films this Thursday.

The student-led event is set to begin at 18:00, featuring screenings from the sixteen shortlisted films at the black tie evening.

There are ten awards up for grabs including:

🎬 Best Film

🎬 Audience Award

🎬 Best Director

🎬 Best Editor

🎬 Best Cinematography

🎬 Best Actress

🎬 Best Actor

🎬 Best Music

🎬 Best Sound

🎬 Best Screenplay

SUSUtv and Wessex Films win seven awards at Southampton Film Festival

In General

Massive congratulations to SUSUtv and Wessex Films for winning a total of seven awards for their films submitted as part of the Exposure Filmmakers 48 Hour Film Challenge at last month’s Southampton Film Week.

SUSUtv has been awarded ‘Best Editor’ for their submission Sentence of Sentience that tells the story of an AI who is given 24 hours to live as a human.

Wessex Films took home six awards for Best Screenplay, Best Director, Best Cinematography, Best SFX, Best Actor and Best Actress.

Twenty teams of up to six crew members were given 48 hours to create a short film … Read the rest

Enjoy world-class press opportunities with The Edge

Our very own entertainment magazine The Edge, attended press conference for The Light Between Oceans with Director Derek Cianfrance and Hollywood A-listers, Michael Fassbender and Alicia Vikander.
The conference, held at Claridges, was organised prior to the European premiere of the film in central London to discuss the film’s themes, genre and performance.

SUSUtv have been highly commended for two NaSTA Awards

In General

Our very own student-led television station, SUSUtv, have been Highly Commended at this year’s NaSTA (National Student Television Association) Awards.

The team were recognised for Best Live coverage for this year’s SUSU Elections Night Live and Engineering student Will Garside was Highly Commended for Best Documentary Award for Radar – Britain’s Shield, about the history of the spitfire and its first flight from Southampton airport. Garside’s documentary has previously Best Direction award at the SUSUtv Student Film Festival.

The Mockingjay is landing at Union Films

It’s here – the fourth and final movie in the epic Hunger Games franchise: Mockingjay – Part 2.

And now you can see it for a fraction of the price, courtesy of our very own Union Films.

The action kicks off with a midnight showing next Thursday, the same date the film is released to UK cinemas, with a marathon of screenings running every day up until 3rd December. So there’s absolutely no excuse to miss out!

This Week at Union Films: The Age of Adaline and Ant-Man

Union Films, the student run cinema operating from within the Union building, have already shown some great films this week including Terminator Genisys and Ted 2, kicking off what is a great week for cinema.

First up tomorrow at 5pm is The Age of Adaline, a romantic fantasy film about a 29 year old lady who, after recovering from a nearly lethal accident, finds out she is no longer growing older. Starring Blake Lively and Harrison Ford, it’s a sweet tale that you shouldn’t miss!
