General Election: Register to vote

As you may have heard, our Prime Minister has called a Snap General Election, which means the deadline to register to vote is fast approaching.

It’s really important that students have their say, so make sure you register before the following deadlines:

  • Monday 22 May – Deadline to register to vote
  • Tuesday 23 May – Deadline to register for postal or postal proxy vote
  • Wednesday 31 May – Deadline to register for proxy vote
  • Thursday 08 June – Deadline to register to vote on the day or emergency day postal votes

Register at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote.

Todays the day for voting

In General

If you hadn’t heard, the General Elections are well and truly upon us, and today is the day you get to vote for the next parliament. Wandering down to your local polling station will only take about 20 minutes, and it’s your chance to change history.

The General Elections are what determines the next Parliament in the House of Commons, and run alongside the local elections, which will determine the councilors in your local council. The majority party or parties in Parliament will go on to form a government.

Have you registered to vote?

In General

The General Elections are right around the corner, but students need to make sure they’ve registered to vote else you could face an £80 fine, and lose your right to say who runs the UK on May 7.

People can no longer be automatically registered to vote, so now you have to do it yourself. You can register online at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote and it’ll only take about 5 minutes!

Today see’s the grand launch of the Your Vote Your Voice website www.yourvoteyourvoice2015.com which has been specially created to give you all the information you need to make your voice heard in the upcoming General Elections on the 7 May 2015.

Here you’ll find details on everything from what the General Elections are to where you can find your local polling station and how you can vote.

The website has even been designed to provide you with personalised voting information just for you.

To access this all you have to do is enter your University username and password.

Success for External Engagement #mysusu

In General

Over the past year we’ve worked alongside to improve our relationship with local residents and expand communication between students and the local community.

Our Vice President Engagement, Ellie Cawthera, held a Street Party in conjunction with the Outer Avenue Residents’ Association in Gordon Avenue, which hundreds of local residents came too. Following on from this hugely successful event Ellie organized the Building Bridges Curry alongside the Highfield Residents’ Association where students and local residents could meet and get to know each other.
