RAG Week 2017 – The Line-Up

RAG are celebrating their 90th birthday and what better way to celebrate than a week of exciting fundraisers from karaoke to a night out in a mystery city!

For 90 years, students in Southampton have been Raising and Giving to charity. This year, RAG are hoping to raise as much money as they can for their three nominated charities for the year:

  • Action Against Hunger
  • HCPT The Pilgrimage Trust
  • Alzheimer’s Society

What events will RAG be holding for the rest of the week?

Stay Safe on Salisbury Road

In General

There is construction work being carried out near the Gower on Salisbury Road. We have received reports of safety incidents, so please ensure that you stay safe and cross the road with caution to avoid the traffic.

Make sure you:

  • Use the pavements
  • Look both ways
  • Only cross where it is indicated you should do so

No Worries Wednesday

Accessing the help you need can sometimes be a challenge. You may not know where to go, or even that the service exists. We are lucky to have hundreds of support services available to you at our Union and externally and we have brought them all together in one place so you can find out everything you need to know about how to access them.

Student groups launch Southampton Refugee Month this November.

In General

The month has been organised to raise awareness about refugee crisis across the world with a focus on Syria.

Twenty-four student groups are involved in the events programme which includes a free film screening of White Helmets; a bake sale; a panel event headed by Soton2Calais founder and Medical student, Ilaf Moslawy; an Amnesty sleep-out; and much more.

Become a Peer Supporter

In General

We understand that university can sometimes bring about stress, what with deadlines and adjusting to student life away from home. That’s why we developed the Peer Support scheme.

Peer Support is a confidential listening service delivered by students for students. It provides an informal opportunity to talk through any issues that may be concerning you.

Perhaps you are feeling homesick or lonely, maybe the stress of university life is getting to you or you just need someone to moan to. Our peer supporters are willing to listen to you and take time to understand what is on your mind.

RAG bids to host the 2017 RAG Conference

Our very own Southampton RAG team have put in a bid to host the 2017 RAG Conference.

The conference is hosted in a different Union annually to showcase the successes of the year’s fundraising.

The bid comes after RAG announced their 2015-16 fundraising total, which was an incredible £165, 194.05.

Congratulations to our incredible RAG team for working so hard to raise an amazing £165, 194.05 for charity during last year.

Each year, our student-run group focuses its fundraising efforts on three nominated charities, voted on by you! in 2015-16, Make A Wish Foundation, Student Minds, and The Red Lipstick Foundation were just some of the beneficiaries of the total, plus you of course! There is a new phishing scam which is targeting students via email.

If you receive an email claiming that you have won an education grant from the Department of Education, please do not click on any links or submit any of your details.

If you, or anyone you know, have been affected by this fraud or any other scam, report it to Action Fraud by calling 0300 123 2040 or visiting www.actionfraud.police.uk.

Don’t forget that our Advice Centre (open Monday-Friday 09:00-17:00) is always on hand to offer you support on a variety of different issues.
