SUSU Supports Black Lives Matter

Over the weekend, there has been significant media attention on the senseless murder of George Floyd by a U.S policeman. However, this is not an isolated incident. In the last few weeks alone, there have been a number of racist attacks on the Black community, and has been an ongoing issue for a long time. Home Office Telephone Scam – Important Information

It has been brought to our attention by the Visa & Immigration Student Advice Service that many international students have recently become targets of a telephone scam. Students have reported receiving a call from somebody claiming to be from the Home Office who tells them they haven’t paid for an immigration service and must pay a fine or risk being reported to the police. The callers have become progressively insistent and forceful in their attempt to get students to make payments.

Grad Ball: Ticket Collection Information

We’re excited to announce that the Grad Ball Wristbands have arrived! You’ll be able to collect yours from 09:00-20:00 on Monday 05 – Thursday 08 June at the Box Office in Building 42.

On Friday 09 June, ticket collections will only be from 09:00–17:00 as we will be closing Building 42 from 18:00 (more info here)

Grad Ball: Closures Around Campus

In General

Grad Ball 2017  is so close that we can almost taste the prosecco bubbles, hear the music and smell the delicious food we’ll be serving up at the Food Fayre on the Redbrick!

As we have lots to prepare and decorate to make sure that the night is super special, there will be some closures across campus.

  • The Shop will be closed on Saturday 10 June
  • The Bridge will be closed on Saturday 10 June
  • The Stag’s will be open from 12:00-19:00 only for the England v Scotland
  • Building 42 will be close at 18:00 from Friday 09 June

Society Spotlight on FemSoc: “It’s about being part of a movement which is there to help all women everywhere.”

Last week we caught up with the lovely President of the Feminist Society, Emily.

According to Emily, the Feminist movement strives for equality and justice for people of all genders. It explores and questions gender inequality, but, as Emily commented, it’s important to be mindful that people are affected by inequality differently. By this, she means that the level of discrimination someone faces is often influenced by factors beyond their gender too, for example their race, sexuality, class and where in the world they live.
