Wednesday 13 May saw one of the biggest events in the Democracy calendar – the SUSU AGM. This annual meeting includes an open council, in which any student can put forward a motion to be discussed, and any student can attend to vote on those motions.

This year, technology was on our side – motions were proposed online, as in previous years, and could also be voted on by proxy, allowing those busy with revision to cast their vote without leaving the comfort of the library.

Another year, and another opportunity to celebrate and reward the inspirational volunteering efforts made by societies and individuals within SUSU. The seven award categories, as well as relating to the values of SUSU, are

designed to represent and recognise the many varieties of volunteering that take place within the Students’ Union.

The categories included: Commitment, Leadership, Innovation, Impact, Engagement, Collaboration and The Volunteer award – for outstanding individuals who have shown many of the above personality traits, as well as enthusiasm and great personal drive. The shortlist for the Excellence in Volunteering Awards (EVAs) has been revealed, following the submission of over 300 nominations.

The EVAs aim to celebrate student achievement and dedication as volunteers within the Union. The names of all of the nominees were announced earlier this month, and these have now been whittled down to a shortlist for each of the seven categories. The full shortlist can be found below:
