The Guardian is launching a new series focussing on the positive contributions students make to society. Fed up of the way in which students are portrayed, confined to a narrow and unflattering set of stereotypes, Abby Young-Powell of The Guardian has decided to launch a new series showcasing the more realistic, politically engaged side of the national student body.

Hello Soon-To-Be Freshers and welcome to SUSU!

We’re extremely proud of all the students who have worked incredibly hard to get here and we couldn’t be more excited to meet you all in September.

Celebrating success of sustainability projects

Last week saw the National Union of Students hold a parliamentary reception at the House of Lords to celebrate the positive impacts of its Students’ Green Fund across the movement.

 

David Willetts, Minister of State for Universities and Science, Lord Redesdale, and Steve Egan, Deputy Chief executive for HEFCE all attended the event, showcasing the creativity, diversity, green credentials and business acumen of students’ unions across the country.

Referendum 2012 Results

In General

The results have now been announced for the 2012 Referendum on “Should SUSU be affiliated to the NUS?” which was held on December 6th.

The total turnout in the referendum was 4891 voters

The results were:

  • 3595 No
  • 1296 Yes

Referendum Open Forum

In General

This December, all students at the University of Southampton will get a chance to vote on whether SUSU, your students’ union, should become affiliated with the NUS.

If you are interested in the discussion, then come along to The Concourse in Building 42 (Highfield campus) between 2pm and 4pm today to find out more at the Referendum Open Forum. Teams representing both sides of the debate will be there in person to answer your questions and let you know how you can get involved.
