Inspired by the Eurovision Song Contest, UniVision brings together a selection of Universities to compete through song to become the UniVision champions.

Our Chamber Choir society has won a trophy for the Class 130 – Open Adult Choir in the 91st annual Southampton Festival of Music and Drama on Thursday 16 March in Thornden Hall, Eastleigh.
The group performed a twenty-minute recital of four varied pieces including: “Ah, Sun-flower!” and “Adieu! Farewell Earth’s bliss” by Jonathan Dove, from his fantastic “The Passing of the Year” song cycle; “E si fussi pisci” by Berio – a light-hearted Sicilian love song; and “Crossing the Bar” – a poem by Tennyson, arranged for four-part harmony by Arbo.

Five members of our Performing Arts societies were nominated for the Daily Echo’s Curtain Call Awards in January. The Academy Award-style ceremony took place at Southampton’s Grand Harbour Hotel on Friday 27 January with more than 400 actors and theatre lovers in attendance to celebrate the achievements of youth amateur dramatics groups in the South.
The nominations are as follows:
Darius Timmerman (Theatre group) for his role as Moses in Animal Farm. Applauded for realising “his inner holy roller perfectly as this preaching crow”.
Charlie Randall (Showstoppers) received two nominations for his roles as Paul Muddle in Freelancers and Stephano

We’re pleased to announce the University of Southampton’s performing art societies have been recognised again by the Daily Echo Curtain Call Awards. Known as the Academy Awards for amateur dramatics, the awards recognise the very best of amateur theatre in the South every year and once again we’re excited that Performing Arts have managed to scoop nominations for nearly half of all the awards on offer.
