Nominations are now open in our Spring Elections until Wednesday 12 February, and one of the roles you can run for is Union President.
Do you have ideas on how to lead the Union or how to improve how sustainable we are and ensure SUSU reaches all students at all sites? Then this may be the role for you! All it takes is one great idea and lots of passion for the role – remember, change starts with you.
A great example of what can be achieved in this role is the creation and launch of our vegan … Read the rest

This week is #transawarenessweek – a time for transgender people and their allies to bring awareness of transgender and gender non-conforming people and to highlight issues the community face.
This week we were joined by Nia, President of our LGBT+ Society and Fleur, President of our Feminist Society to talk all about Transgender Awareness Week.
Next week, on Tuesday 20th November, it is Transgender Day of Remembrance. This is an annual observance day to honour those whose lives were lost in anti-transgender violence. You can read more about Southampton’s own Transgender Day of Remembrance event by clicking here.… Read the rest

Last week we caught up with the lovely President of the Feminist Society, Emily.
According to Emily, the Feminist movement strives for equality and justice for people of all genders. It explores and questions gender inequality, but, as Emily commented, it’s important to be mindful that people are affected by inequality differently. By this, she means that the level of discrimination someone faces is often influenced by factors beyond their gender too, for example their race, sexuality, class and where in the world they live.
During the interview, Emily touched upon the positive impact that female celebrities such … Read the rest

After months of bitter campaigning, yesterday the U.S. finally went to the polls to choose their 45th President. Last night, as polls closed and counting began, legions of students joined Wessex Scene and Surge at The Stag’s to eagerly await the results. After a nail-biting night, we can now announce that Donald Trump won with 278 against 218 electoral college votes!
A big thank you to Wessex Scene and Surge for their overnight coverage of the results, and to everyone who joined them for the occasion.
Don’t forget to let us know what you make of the results – … Read the rest

In the recent National Student Survey 2016 results, Union Southampton dropped six points to an overall satisfaction rating of 66%. The sector average for satisfaction is 68%, so we are slightly below that. While we had some good news, specifically a massive increase of satisfaction at the Winchester School of Art campus, this overall satisfaction result is obviously disappointing.
We had a high percentage of respondents who responded that they neither agreed nor disagreed with the statement (20%) or felt the Union was not applicable to them (2%). This represents a large percentage of our members who are indifferent and … Read the rest

Since December we have been working on a review and now a rebrand of SUSU.
It’s been quite a journey! We’ve completed surveys and workshops involving both staff members and yourselves and we’ve made visits to Holdens’ branding agency in Manchester to discuss some interesting concepts discussed along the way.
Since our last update, Holdens’ have been working on getting together a set of branding guidelines to help us implement the new brand. This includes how to use the brand in order to reinforce who we are based on everything we learned during our consultation process, which saw 10% … Read the rest

You’ll have seen the announcements on Facebook, and pencilled the date in your diary; there’s no doubt about it, Graduation Ball 2016 is on the way.
Taking place on the 6th of June 2016, the fantastic event is always a night to remember. In anticipation of the first wave of information being released on Monday (18th of April), we take a look back at previous year’s graduation balls.
Last year we saw the likes of Katy B, Bass Hunter and Labrinth take over Oceana, with the ‘Music Through The Ages’ themed event. Each room was themed with … Read the rest

Describe your society and what it is you do:
The society was created to give a space to Criminology students and all other people interested in topics like crime, forensics and investigation. We organise trips to seminars at the University of Oxford, trips to courts, crime museums and much more. We also … Read the rest
