All Student Vote and our next steps

Following a successful student petition, we conducted an All Student Vote between Monday 10 December and Friday 12 January to gather our members’ opinion on the current restructure of the University. The questions were created in conjunction with the students who submitted the petition, and results were as follows:

Do you believe that there has been full and clear consultation with students on this restructure?

Yes – 325 votes (15%)

No – 1,843 (85%)

 

Do you believe that the Vice-Chancellor’s pay should be cut as part of the restructure?

Yes – 2,035 votes (90.6%)

Standing up for appropriate support in halls

It has come to light that the University is in the process of implementing a restructuring of the Residents’ Support Service (RESSUP), moving from an overnight service to a 24-hour one, which will result in an 18 to 20% cut in take-home pay for the members of that team according to UNISON.

RESSUP is a key support service for students living in halls, offering pastoral support, practical support, advice, and generally a friendly face to students who might be struggling.

Logo Redesign Update

So what’s happened since our last update?

Following the All Student Vote in October where you voted to keep the Union Southampton branding with the SUSU name and the recent ideas survey, we have been busy working on the logo redesign based on your feedback. Many of you said that you would like to see more colour on the building signage and a few of you expressed concerns about the cost of the rebrand previously. Our Marketing & Communications Crew hit campus to get feedback on the student experience

In General

Members of our Marketing and Communications Crew hit campus last week to gain your views on the student experience in both Southampton and Winchester.

The crew, who are also students here at the University of Southampton, took ipads around campus to encourage you to fill out the National Student Survey (NSS).

The national survey, which can be completed at www.thestudentsurvey.co.uk, is a UK-wide feedback indicator, which is used to help us and the University to improve the student experience.

Open to all final year undergraduate students, we use the information to make positive changes for the future.

WSA Quiz back for 2017

If you were one of the 109 students who joined us for the WSA Quiz and Curry Festive Special a couple of weeks ago, you can rest assured that the Quiz will be back for 2017.

Jingle all the way with Christmas music, festive quiz questions as we party at the final quiz of the year.

We’re celebrating the beginning of the festive season at WSA with a Christmas-themed version of our popular fortnightly WSA Quiz and Curry.

Join us on Tuesday 06 December between 18:00-22:00 for more quizzical fun as we embrace the Christmas festivities at the WSA Cafe.

WSA Quiz and Curry

In General

The famous WSA Quiz and Curry is back for another year!

Join us tomorrow night (11 October) at the WSA Cafe for a night of quizzical fun and delicious curry – all for just £4.25 each (Curry – £3.25 and £1 entry).

You can register teams of up to six of you from 18:00 before food is served from 18:00.

Then once you’re all refuelled and ready to go, we’ll start the quiz at 19:00.
Hit ‘going’ on our Facebook event so we can get enough curry for everyone.
