On Wednesday 01 July, the new Sabbatical Officer team will take office for the academic year 2020/21. However, we have unfortunately been made aware recently that the student elected to the role of VP Education & Democracy will be unable to fulfil the requirements of the role because of their particular visa restrictions.
We will, therefore, be holding a by-election for the role of VP Education & Democracy, which will open on Monday 29 June.

Isabella, VP Welfare and Lucy, SUSU Ethics and Environment Officer, helped plant 10 oak trees at Wide Lane Sports Centre as a result of the Sports & Wellbeing Centre’s pledge to work towards offsetting its carbon footprint.
Isabella and Lucy were invited to plant the trees to commemorate both their roles as Union Sustainability Officers. “I am really happy to see departments at the University making sustainable pledges like this,” says Isabella.

In the recent National Student Survey 2017 results, the University of Southampton Students’ Union received a satisfaction rate of 48% for academic representation. We are disappointed with this result but we are confident that we can, and will, do better for our students.
We already have several projects planned to strengthen academic representation this year: we are pushing to make online submissions available to all students, lobbying for functioning online module choice and we will work with the University to improve teaching and feedback quality.
