The problem: Isolation of older people in Southampton

 

A million older people in the UK haven’t spoken to anyone for a month.

At Christmas, an estimated 500,000 older people will be alone.

Southampton University research has shown the extent of isolation experienced by older people in Southampton.  Local voluntary sector organisations working in this area have confirmed that fresh ideas are urgently needed to make a sustainable difference.

A Taste of the Bridge

Last night The Bridge played host to a special ‘A Taste of’ event which saw Freshers’ being able to experience the wonderful level of food served in everyone’s favourite campus eatery!

The Bridge’s Michelin Star trained Chef, Luke, was on hand to create some truly spectacular dishes and was helped along by the wonderful team of support staff.

We took the time to catch up with Peter, a 3rd year Music student and Bridge Team Leader who has a new-found passion for food since joining the Bridge kitchen team just over a year ago.

Success for SUSU international fee campaign

In General

International students at Southampton University will no longer face fee increases during each year of their study.

The movement comes after a SUSU drive, with VP Communities Oli Coles and VP Education David Mendoza Wolfson, to end student poverty.

As a result of the campaign, the University have agreed to end their system of increasing fees for international students and will ensure they know what their degree costs them.

Open access – what are your rights?

SUSU recently received a message from a student asking about their rights when it comes to open access of their property to prospective tenants.   The student was sent an email requesting a period of open access by Lettings Agency Student NO Fee.
