You may remember reading our recent blog post, calling for nominations for the National Societies Awards.
Following a flurry of nominations, we are delighted to announce that our student-run television station, SUSUtv have been shortlisted for Best Media Society.
Head of Publicity, Tara Granea comments, “Everyone here at the station is absolutely delighted with this nomination! We’ve been working so hard all year and, although we don’t do it for the awards, it’s such a great feeling to see everyone’s effort pay off. We’re very grateful!”

Surge Radio broadcast a series of special live sessions at the world-famous Abbey Road Studios in London on Thursday.
Our student-run station were recording live between 12:00-16:00 via their website at www.surgeradio.co.uk.
Local musicians joined the team to perform live on the show, including Portsmouth-based singer-songwriter, Jerry Williams and Will Joseph Cook, an indie solo artist with several million streams on Spotify.
Surge were offered the opportunity to broadcast at the world-renowned studio, following the discovery of a rare ‘BTR (British Tape Recorder) Workhouse Tape Machine’ found at the station’s previous recording studio at Glen Eyre Halls. The studio … Read the rest

Surge Radio has been invited to broadcast at the world-famous Abbey Road Studios on Thursday 13 April.
Our student-run station is set to record between 12:00-16:00 on Thursday in a series of four live sessions, which students can listen to on the station’s website at www.surgeradio.co.uk. Our very own student television station, SUSUtv, has achieved Highly Commended at National Student Television Association Awards (NaSTAs) 2017 on Saturday.
The team received the recognition for their entry, ‘Blind Love’ in the ‘Best Writing’ Category at the awards ceremony, held in Birmingham.
The film, written and directed by Tom Pethick, tells the story of a young man, Horatio, as he is forced to make the decision between love and sight as his vision grows increasingly weaker the more time he spends with the girl he loves.

Surge Radio has raised £863.40 for Comic Relief, at their annual 48 hour broadcasting marathon on Thursday – Saturday.
The total nearly doubled their initial fundraising goal of £480 for the charity.
The marathon, which was broadcast live outside the Union building on the Redbrick, started at 00:00 on Thursday, ending 48 hours later at 00:00 on Saturday 25 March.
The shows featured a series of competitions, on-air challenges, and games, including an appearance from BBC Radio 1 DJ and Surge alumna, Chris Stark, who tuned in on Thursday morning to offer the team motivation and a donation of £100.… Read the rest

The Student Film Festival returns to Union Films this Thursday.
The student-led event is set to begin at 18:00, featuring screenings from the sixteen shortlisted films at the black tie evening.

Surge Radio are embarking on their annual 48 hour broadcasting marathon on Thursday to raise money for Comic Relief.
The marathon, which will be broadcast live outside the Union building on the Redbrick, is due to start at midnight on Thursday, ending 48 hours later at 00:00 on Saturday 25 March.
The 40 strong team of volunteers aim to raise £480 for Comic Relief in association with RAG (Raise and Give) society through a series of competitions, on-air challenges, and games.

Massive congratulations to SUSUtv and Wessex Films for winning a total of seven awards for their films submitted as part of the Exposure Filmmakers 48 Hour Film Challenge at last month’s Southampton Film Week.
SUSUtv has been awarded ‘Best Editor’ for their submission Sentence of Sentience that tells the story of an AI who is given 24 hours to live as a human.
Wessex Films took home six awards for Best Screenplay, Best Director, Best Cinematography, Best SFX, Best Actor and Best Actress.

Our very own student-run radio station, Surge Radio, has won a gold and a silver award following three nominations at last night’s 2016 Student Radio Awards (SRAs) at the Indigo at the O2, London.
The nominations were announced on Wednesday 12 October, with Surge receiving three nominations: Best Entertainment Programme with ‘The Lowdown with Tom Cross’ (Gold Award) and ‘Don’t Touch Me I’m Famous’ and Best Male – Tom Cross (Silver Award).
