Huge congratulations are in order for Surge Radio, our student-run radio station, who won two Silver awards at the 2017 Student Radio Awards: Best Multi-platform Initiative and Best Live Event or Outside Broadcast.
Both awards were for Surge’s brilliant live coverage of the RAG (Raise and Give) 2016 Jailbreak, an event where students aim to travel as far from Southampton as possible without spending any money, fundraising as they go. Surge covered the event live for 36 hours, keeping track of 30 teams on their adventures.

Our very own student-run radio station, Surge Radio, has won a gold and a silver award following three nominations at last night’s 2016 Student Radio Awards (SRAs) at the Indigo at the O2, London.
The nominations were announced on Wednesday 12 October, with Surge receiving three nominations: Best Entertainment Programme with ‘The Lowdown with Tom Cross’ (Gold Award) and ‘Don’t Touch Me I’m Famous’ and Best Male – Tom Cross (Silver Award).

The Students’ Union’s very own Surge Radio have been nominated for two Student Radio Awards (SRAs) 2015.
Our student-run radio station have been nominated for Best Live Event or Outside Broadcast for their coverage of the 48 Hour Marathon and for Best Newcomer, where Toby Leveson has been nominated for his contribution to the station from 2014-15.
The 48 Hour Marathon was broadcast back in March where Surge raised over £1000 for RAG and the Teenage Cancer Trust whilst broadcasting for 48 hours straight.

Here at Southampton we have four brilliant student-run media departments, who create high quality content throughout the year; and this year they have been even more successful. SURGE were nominated for three Student Radio Awards, both the Wessex Scene and The Edge came highly commended in a Student Publication Award (Wessex Scene for Design and The Edge for Best Entertainment Piece) and SUSUtv won a NaSTA Award for their take on Top Gear.
