We are delighted to announce that a brand new 44-seat bus will be replacing the smaller WSA shuttle bus from Monday 18 September.

This is something which many of you have asked for, so we’re extremely pleased that it has been put into action. The larger bus will enable more WSA students to make the most out of everything we have to … Read the rest

Over 300 Pre-Sessional students supported Southampton ‘Saints’ FC in their recent Premier League match against Swansea FC on 12 August 2017, in a trip arranged by the University of Southampton Students’ Union.
Attending the football match was a brilliant way for our new students to feel welcomed into the Southampton community and a chance for them to get behind their new home team. It was also a chance to spend time with new friends and practice English language skills for their courses.
Some students chose to buy Southampton team scarves and took part in a photo competition arranged by the … Read the rest

This summer we asked once again for students to Shift Your Stuff, donating any unwanted clothes, food and household items to us to help protect the environment and support local charities, rather than simply putting items in the bin.
The campaign was a great success and a huge 2.3 tonnes of clothes, bedding, kitchenware and food was donated on campus or left at Portswood collection points – we were even donated a printer!
Pre-sessional students were invited to attend a fundraising event in The Cube on Wednesday 05 July 2017 to stock up on essential items for the year ahead. … Read the rest

It has come to light that the University is in the process of implementing a restructuring of the Residents’ Support Service (RESSUP), moving from an overnight service to a 24-hour one, which will result in an 18 to 20% cut in take-home pay for the members of that team according to UNISON.
RESSUP is a key support service for students living in halls, offering pastoral support, practical support, advice, and generally a friendly face to students who might be struggling.
We consider RESSUP as one of the key elements to providing welfare support for students and improving the student experience … Read the rest

Surge Radio has been invited to broadcast at the world-famous Abbey Road Studios on Thursday 13 April.
Our student-run station is set to record between 12:00-16:00 on Thursday in a series of four live sessions, which students can listen to on the station’s website at www.surgeradio.co.uk. Founded in 2009, CoppaFeel! is a London based charity which strives toward educating and encouraging women under 30 to be proactive and get into the swing of regularly checking their breasts. Earlier this year, we gave affiliation to our own CoppaFeel! UBT (Uni Boob Team) here at the Union. Following International Women’s Week, we interviewed committee members Constantia, the President, Ella, Treasurer and Helena, Secretary to find out more about what they do.
When asked what distinguishes CoppaFeel! from other cancer charities, Constantia pointed out that it is less focused on research and cure and is instead centred around a … Read the rest
