Male Suicide Prevention Event

Content Warning – Suicide

On Thursday 28 November 84 pairs of shoes will be placed in the centre of the redbrick to represent the average of 84 men who take their own lives each week in the UK.

On behalf of the charity CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably), leaflets and information will be provided at the protest with the aim of helping those suffering from poor mental health or who might be considering suicide. Despite the breaking down of stigma around mental illness, suicide is still seen as a taboo topic. Today is World Suicide Prevention Day, a day dedicated to preventing suicide through action, conversation and support.

A lesser-talked about issue within this conversation is suicidal ideation. Many people experience suicidal thoughts without actively planning for it, or even necessarily wanting to.
