SUSU joins UN Women UK University Champions Network

The Union is proud to be joining a network of students across the country who are raising awareness for UN Women, the only global organisation dedicated to gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls.

By joining the network, and taking the lead on these campaigns, SUSU will be able to have a big impact both on campus, as well as throughout the UK and across the world.

Union Sustainability Officers plant trees as part of Sport and Wellbeing’s carbon footprint pledge

Isabella, VP Welfare and Lucy, SUSU Ethics and Environment Officer, helped plant 10 oak trees at Wide Lane Sports Centre as a result of the Sports & Wellbeing Centre’s pledge to work towards offsetting its carbon footprint.

Isabella and Lucy were invited to plant the trees to commemorate both their roles as Union Sustainability Officers. “I am really happy to see departments at the University making sustainable pledges like this,” says Isabella.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month: Uni Boob Team

1st October marks the beginning of Breast Cancer Awareness Month and our very own Uni Boob Team are shouting from the rooftops about regularly checking your boobs.

You may have seen them spreading their boob wisdom around Campus and beyond, hosting Glitter Parties, cake sales, and ‘shower take-overs’, theyโ€™re all about raising awareness and having a good time doing it.

Society Spotlight: Cake Decorating Society

Today marks the beginning of one of the best weeks of the year, National Cupcake Week. Yep, it’s a thing! Originally created by British Baker magazine, National Cupcake Week is a special week set aside to celebrate the “gloriously sweet bundles of joy that are cupcakes.” However, we all know decorating them is the best bit (or maybe it’s eating them?) and this society definitely agrees.

Today we say goodbye to an old friend

We are deeply saddened to announce that our beloved member of the Union team, Susu the cat, passed away earlier today. She was our honorary president and feline friend, and will be greatly missed by all our members and staff who met her throughout her years with us.

Susu was always a superstar of the Union, she even made BBC headlines after we announced her as Honorary President! Members loved spotting her on campus and often headed down to her favourite spot near Bar 2 to say hello.

Students Shift 2.3 Tonnes of Stuff

This summer we asked once again for students to Shift Your Stuff, donating any unwanted clothes, food and household items to us to help protect the environment and support local charities, rather than simply putting items in the bin.

The campaign was a great success and a huge 2.3 tonnes of clothes, bedding, kitchenware and food was donated on campus or left at Portswood collection points โ€“ we were even donated a printer!

Pre-sessional students were invited to attend a fundraising event in The Cube on Wednesday 05 July 2017 to stock up on essential items for the year ahead. … Read the rest
