Varsity 2016: We are all #TeamSouthampton

Varsity 2016 is epic, exciting and fierce as our Team Southampton heroes battle it out at sports against the University of Portsmouth on Sunday 13th March.

Held at various venues across Southampton this year, including Wide Lane, Jubilee Sports Centre, SUSU (Building 42) and the Watersports Centre, you can show your support on your doorstep.

Try your hand at a new sport at our Sports Taster Weekend

The Students’ Union boasts over 100 sports clubs and groups run by students, so if you love sport, you are in for a treat this year.

The sporting year will be kicking off with our Sports Taster Weekend on the 26th and 27th September. This is a great chance for students, both new and returning, to try out our sports clubs including hockey, rugby, netball and even Quidditch!

End of an era

Today marks the end of an era as the Sabbatical Team and Student Leader Team for 2014-2015 come to the end of their terms in office. The team, led by Union President David Mendoza Wolfson, have had an eventful year making positive changes to your students union and will surely be missed as the new team takes office.

Sunday marks the biggest day in SUSU’s sporting calendar: Varsity 2015 this year it will be held at Portsmouth so make sure you make plans to watch Team Southampton as they #PlayToWin!

#MySUSU – What have we done for you lately?

Over the past year SUSU have been busy at work trying to improve life for every student at the University. As part of the #MySUSU initiative we’re putting a spotlight on a few things that SUSU has done to help improve student life.

From March we began to focus on improving communication between students and the local community, with a community newsletter distributed to local residents and 283 individuals engaged in Student Volunteering Week.

Over the past year, there have been a host of positive changes within the Sports Development zone. The purpose of the Sports Development zone is to enable our members to enjoy sport and unlock the potential of every one of our athletes here at Southampton. The University has now launched its very own crowdfunding platform to help your club or society to fundraise for your own projects and activities. Crowdfunding is a fun and exciting way to get your peers and other supporters involved with helping to fund projects that help your club or society to take part in an opportunity that might otherwise be unobtainable. The possibilities for what you can fundraise for could include things like uniforms, equipment, travel costs, enterprise initiatives and many more.
