Student Journalism is an excellent way to get into journalism, freelance writing, marketing or just to meet new people and write about the things you enjoy. The Edge magazine provides an excellent opportunity to get involved in the ‘student journo’ world, or just try your hand at writing. On Monday 07 May we celebrated another year of fantastic talent, hard work and dedication shown from our student media groups at the Media Ball 2018. This year the ball was held at the Southampton Harbour Hotel and was a very glamorous occasion!

The Student Film Festival returns to Union Films this Thursday.
The student-led event is set to begin at 18:00, featuring screenings from the sixteen shortlisted films at the black tie evening.
There are ten awards up for grabs including:

Our very own entertainment magazine The Edge, attended press conference for The Light Between Oceans with Director Derek Cianfrance and Hollywood A-listers, Michael Fassbender and Alicia Vikander.
The conference, held at Claridges, was organised prior to the European premiere of the film in central London to discuss the film’s themes, genre and performance.

Here at Southampton we are proud to have over 300 student run student groups, ensuring there is something for everyone. Among these are four award-winning media outlets as well as your very own student cinema, based in the heart of the Union. Each of these groups are run by a Student Leader, elected in our Spring Elections, and each offer you a range of ways of getting involved, with anything from simply watching, reading or listening, to making potentially award-winning content or putting on a film.
