Second year English and History student, Robert Pratley, talks about the rise of Tae-Kwon-Do in the upcoming Rio Olympics.
In terms of competitive sport, few people would argue that integrity, trust and honesty are three absolutely key attributes for any top sporting man or woman in their field. Unfortunately, these attributes have been thrown into question and chaos following the recent doping scandal, which has affected major names, major sports and led to a country being banned from Rio 2016, in an unprecedented move.
At the same time, serious questions have rightly been raised about the capability of Rio De … Read the rest

The Olympic Games 2016 in Rio is set to begin on the 05 August, so to get in the sporting spirit, Rebecca James takes a look at the swimming athletes sure to win gold this summer.
One of the best parts about the Olympics is the fantastic coverage of sport – the mainstream TV channels broadcast events and sports that normally wouldn’t get a look in. And while there have been developments in recent years in terms of the broadcasting of major events in swimming, there is nothing quite like spending a week watching heats, semi-finals and finals. However, because … Read the rest

Editor of The Edge, Anneka Honeyball, offers a few suggestions for shows worthy of binge-watching over the summer holidays.
The art of binge-watching is a skill that every student comes to perfect during their studies. With the rise of streaming services like Netflix and Amazon Prime, we have been given the perfect excuse to procrastinate by whittling down our time, episode by episode. But during the summer, we are given that very rare opportunity wherein the art of binge-watching is more or less guilt-free. With no impending essays or exams to revise for, now is the time for you … Read the rest

With a new (academic) year nearly upon us, we caught up with Anneka Honeyball, Editor of The Edge (editor@theedgesusu.co.uk) in her first blog takeover to find out why she thinks you should get involved with our student-led entertainment magazine.
Though my degree is, of course, what I’m here for, a fundamental part of my University experience has been in the societies I have joined. Of the 300 student groups and societies available at Southampton, the society I chose to dedicate the majority of my time, effort and unending passion to was The Edge – the Union’s leading entertainment magazine of … Read the rest
