Spring Elections campaigning has begun

Who do you think should lead the Union during 2018/19?

Campaigning in our Spring Elections has now begun for all candidates. The countdown is on to Elections Night Live (Friday 02 March), so candidates will need to win those all important votes (you may have spotted lots of posters around campus!).

Amazon Lockers: an update!

Hi everyone, Flora here!

Today I want to talk about an issue that has come up in many different You Make Change submissions and conversations around campus – Amazon Lockers. You may have noticed that they also came up as an action item during the 2016/17 AGM, meaning that as a Union we are mandated to explore getting Amazon Lockers on campus.

Union Senate: an update on Full-Time Officer progress

Earlier this month, we had our first Senate meeting of the academic year.  One of the main purposes of the Senate is to hold the Sabbatical Officers to account. At each of the meeting, our officers give an update on their plan and students can ask questions about progress.

Union Senate also monitors the work of our Zone Committees, Union Officers and Trustee Board, check considerable expenditure by the Students’ Union and takes decisions on major Union issues. You Made Change – The Bridge Laptop Free Zone

Hi everyone – it’s your friendly neighbourhood Union President here with an update on the laptop free zone in The Bridge!

We’ve had a lot of engagement through You Make Change submissions and social media about the laptop-free zone in the Bridge. It’s been so great to have so much feedback on an issue that really matters to students, and it means we can make better decisions that benefit you!

Grad Ball 2017: A Night We’ll Never Forget!

Our annual Graduation Ball was held on Saturday 10 June and it was fantastic to see hundreds of you suited and booted as we came together to celebrate the end of an era.

As we’re sure you’ve seen from the photos we posted on our Facebook page, we transformed the Union to fit in with this year’s Eden Project theme and there were 6 different venues which offered a whole range of exciting live entertainment. Spring Elections Results: A higher voter turnout than 2016!

The Spring Elections results are in!

Thank you to everyone who voted. We had an incredible turnout this year, with 5,963 of you turning out to vote, making up a total of 43,831 individual votes. That works out of 22% of the student population having their say.

Five students running for Union President

With nominations now closed, we are pleased to introduce our candidates for the Spring Elections 2017.

We have received a healthy 51 nominations from students running for our Full-Time Officer and Student Leader roles and the figure includes an incredible five nominations for students running as Union President this year. The Union President is responsible for leading the Union and the Full-Time Officers. The role involves playing a key part in decision making across the Union, including chairing our Trustee Board and being in charge of Union finances.

We launch five new minibuses for students

In General

We have launched five new minibuses for you to use!

All five fifteen-seater vans have full disabled access, roof racks and have been selected for their low carbon emissions.

The brand new blue Ford Transit vans will be used to deliver you home safely following student nights and library visits as part of our Safety Bus scheme. Student groups, including sports clubs and societies, will also be able to hire the buses for trips and fixtures.
