University’s Student Travel Survey

In General

The University carry out a student travel survey to find out how student travel habits have changed over time. The results will help inform the University’s Travel Plan, which seeks to provide good, sustainable transport links between University Campuses. For example, last year there were over 5 million journeys on Uni-link buses and our Bike Doctor Service repaired more than 1,000 staff and student bikes. Results of the survey will be reported in the Plan.

If you complete it, you will have the option to enter a prize draw to win either one of five £50 West Quay vouchers, … Read the rest

Winchester: Track the Shuttle Bus

In General

The FREE shuttle bus service which takes students from WSA to Highfield campus Monday-Friday during term-time has been running successfully since the beginning of term. The two campuses are better connected and students are able to attend events both in the day and evening at both locations.

However, to make the service even better, we have developed a page on our website to allow you to track the shuttle bus while it is en route.

You can also find the full timetable to ensure that you get to where you want to go on time.

Go to: https://www.susu.org/whats-on-and-where/2015/wsa-shuttle-bus.html

Postgraduate Guest Blog: Life as a Postgraduate Student Parent

In General

We caught up with Kirsty Bolton, a Postgraduate student studying a PhD in Medieval Literature, to talk about her life as a Student Parent at the University of Southampton. Here’s what she said:

My daughter’s Pre-School teacher pulled me aside at collection time the other day to tell me that they had been talking about what jobs the children’s parents do.  “She told us that you go to university to read and study bugs?!”  Well, I don’t study bugs (I think that she meant books), but it makes me really happy to see how proud my daughter is of what … Read the rest

Should the Hartley Library be open 24 hours a day, all-year round? – YOU Decide!

In General

Approved at Union Council last Monday, we will be holding a referendum on Friday 30th October for students to decide whether they want the Hartley Library at Highfield campus to be open 24 hours a day, year-round.

In response to the increased student intake and in order to ‘reduce library overcrowding’, the University has planned to begin 24-hour opening of the Hartley Library from 2 November 2015 to 5 June 2016. The referendum is a response to the lack of student consultation carried about by the University. The last student consultation on a 24-hour library was run in 2013, when … Read the rest
