Success for Midwifery Students Over New Uniforms

In News, Representation

Student feedback success! Midwifery students recently campaigned for new tunic uniforms, which was granted to new Midwifery students starting in September 2018. Following further student feedback, it has now been agreed all Midwifery students (apart from those in their final year) will receive three sets of the new style uniforms.

Midwifery Department President, Jenny Fowles, explained this further in a recent Facebook post to the SUSU Environmental and Life Sciences Reps page, which we have shared below:

“As you know the midwifery students have campaigned this year to get the midwifery uniform changed to tunics in view of options regarding … Read the rest

New Year, New Printing Costs!

In General

Hello everyone! Samuel Dedman here, your returning VP Education for 2018/19. I wrote a blog post a few months ago about the new managed print service coming to the University of Southampton, and left it with a promise of a later update about pricing. I’m pleased to say that this is that update, and it is all good news!

I firmly believe that the cost of student printing at Southampton has been too high in previous years, putting increased pressure on the finances of many of our students. This is particularly true of our students at Winchester School … Read the rest

New Year, New Printers!

In General

Hello everyone! Samuel Dedman here, your returning VP Education for 2018/19. Over the past year the Students’ Union have been working hard to improve the printing experience across the University of Southampton. We’ve had to keep a lot of the good news under wraps for a few months now, but as of June 2018 Apogee (the new provider) are now underway with the roll-out of their service at Read the rest

The University of Southampton has been awarded the Silver Teaching Excellence & Student Outcomes Framework (TEF) Panel Award. The Bridge: An Update!

In General

Hello everyone! Samuel Dedman here, your Vice-President Education for 2017/18. Part of my role concerns itself with study spaces around our campuses, and it is off the back of that that I come to you with an update about The Bridge. This has been an area of some debate over the past year, and so I’m here with what I believe is a solution which benefits everyone.

As VP Education I’m keen to see as much study space as possible made available around our campuses, and indeed within our own Union buildings. First and foremost, The Bridge is our … Read the rest

Who do you think should lead the Union during 2018/19?

Campaigning in our Spring Elections has now begun for all candidates. The countdown is on to Elections Night Live (Friday 02 March), so candidates will need to win those all important votes (you may have spotted lots of posters around campus!).

It can be tricky to decide who you think is the best person for each role. On Monday SUSUtv  live streamed seven Meet the Candidates interviews, to grill each candidate running for a Full-Time Officer role on their key points and how they would implement these, should they win … Read the rest

Union Senate: an update on Full-Time Officer progress

In General

Earlier this month, we had our first Senate meeting of the academic year.  One of the main purposes of the Senate is to hold the Sabbatical Officers to account. At each of the meeting, our officers give an update on their plan and students can ask questions about progress.

Union Senate also monitors the work of our Zone Committees, Union Officers and Trustee Board, check considerable expenditure by the Students’ Union and takes decisions on major Union issues. These meetings are open to everyone – any student can speak at and take part in Senate meetings, but only the members … Read the rest
