Every Halls of residence at University of Southampton (including private rented) has their own Halls Committee (formerly known as JCRs), to ensure that students are given the support they need in their first year.

Approved at Union Council last Monday, we will be holding a referendum on Friday 30th October for students to decide whether they want the Hartley Library at Highfield campus to be open 24 hours a day, year-round.

In response to the increased student intake and in order to ‘reduce library overcrowding’, the University has planned to begin 24-hour opening of the Hartley Library from 2 November 2015 to 5 June 2016. We are launching our very own on-site recruitment agency, SURecruit, to help students find part-time work while they study.

The agency, set to be launched this Freshers’, will work with local employers to find opportunities for students in areas such as hospitality, leisure and care.

Located in the Students’ Union by The Bridge, the agency has been founded in partnership with the University of Southampton’s Careers Destinations Team. Each student will be offered support with the aim of finding suitable work opportunities according to their individual skills and interests.

Following on from the hugely successful Pet a Puppy events of the last year, we are giving you the chance to Meet the Guide Dogs this Freshers’!

The event was last seen in exam season and many students found that petting the trainee guide dogs to be the perfect way to relax from all the stresses that exam season brings. After the success of our Petting Zoo event, we are hosting a Pet a Puppy event on Thursday 4th June. The event is designed to help you relax and de-stress after all the exams, or to help you chill out before any final exams at the end of the exam period.

Everybody knows puppies are one of the cutest things known to man, so it makes sense that by giving them a cuddle, you’ll get the perfect stress-buster.
