Later this week (Friday 4 and Saturday 5 July), the University of Southampton will be holding Open Days to give prospective students the chance to visit the campus and find out more about what the University and SUSU can offer.

SUSU will be open and thriving during these two days, as many student groups have been offered the chance to appear on campus during the day in order to promote their society – a good chance to get their oar in and draw in potential new Freshers before the madness of The Bunfight kicks off in September.

SUSU have announced this year’s event to herald the end of the summer exams – the Great British Garden Party. The party is set to be a huge event, held down in the Cube from 10pm, this Saturday (7 June).

Guests will be greeted with a free glass of Pimm’s upon arrival, and will then be treated to a great night of entertainment, including a free hog roast as well as a photobooth with celebrity lookalikes.

To mark the end of exam season (and a great reason to get outside in – hopefully – the great summer weather) Union Films are putting on a screening of The LEGO Movie this Friday (6 June) on the grass outside Building 40, from 8pm.

Entry to the event is absolutely FREE, and refreshments will be available to buy there. Union Films promise us, “the usual Union Films refreshments,” (popcorn, crisps, chocolate and sweets) with the addition of burgers for this one-off outdoor event. Following the recent news that Oli Coles will not be taking his second year in office as VP Student Communities next year, it has been announced that SUSU will be holding a by-election to fill his position in the coming weeks.

The role of VP Student Communities is key to the running of SUSU, reaching out to student groups such as International Students, Post-Grad Students and students at sites (i.e. Winchester School of Art and the NOC), as well as overseeing the running of JCRs and Diversity Groups.
