To celebrate our beloved pet cat, Susu, we’re launching a brand new cat-themed compawtition to give you the chance to win £25 worth of SUSU vouchers.

Susu has been living around the Union since 2002 when, as a stray cat, porters started to give her food. Now a permanent resident, she can often be found in her bed on level 4 of the Union. SUSU launches crowdfunding platform

SUSU has teamed up with the University of Southampton and educational crowdfunding experts Hubbub to launch a crowdfunding platform.

 

Students, staff members and groups can now use the platform as a way to gather financial support for projects and activities. It is hoped that the initiative will encourage a more enriched experience for those in Southampton, with the fundraising method making it easier to gain backing for projects.

Brazil 2014 World Cup at The Stag’s Head

Students scoop prize at 2014 Student Enterprise Awards

In General

A scheme set up by Enactus Southampton won the title of Best Student Enterprise at the 2014 SETsquared Student Enterprise

Awards earlier this month in a ceremony at the University of Exeter.

 

The non-profit student project SanEco which won the award, is working to enhance the lives of women and communities in

Kenya through the adoption of innovative sanitary solutions. Formed in late-2012, the project has already implemented

SanEco toilets which recycle human waste for use as affordable fertilisers. They have also provided SanEco sanitary towels and embarked on a marketing strategy to teach women about the importance of … Read the rest

SUSU awarded silver Investors in People award

In General

We are pleased to announce that we have just been presented with the Silver award from the business improvement programme Investors in People (IiP).

The programme aims to measure and improve working culture, employee engagement and effective leadership in an attempt to realise the potential of the people within the company and improve overall standards.

 

IiP assessor, Janet Duncan, said that it was the quality of relationships between staff, and the fun and vibrant atmosphere which gained the organisation the impressive award. The flexible work arrangements offered by SUSU were also praised for creating a friendly work environment.

SUSU launches sustainability garden

In General

The Students’ Union has launched a new initiative to encourage the use of organic produce within SUSU’s food outlets.

 

The sustainability garden consists of planters on the outside decked area on level two of the SUSU building in which a variety of herbs are being grown. It is hoped will be used in meals served at on-campus restaurant The Bridge within the next month.

The course which will take place at Totton College in Southampton is called Enterprise4Totton and aims to provide the skills needed to start a business.

Excellence in Teaching Awards nominees announced

The nominees for the Excellence in Teaching Awards (ETAs) have been announced.

 

The ETAs aim to celebrate the members of academic staff who have gone over and above the call of duty or used innovative techniques to help students excel in their studies. A call for nominations from students in March resulted in more than 500 being submitted, showcasing some of the best staff at the University of Southampton.

 

The awards cover five categories: Outstanding Lecturer, Teaching & Learning Lifetime Achievement, Innovative Teaching, Best Feedback Provision, and Contribution to Academic Support.
