Hartley Library announces extended hours during the Summer term

In General

In response to student demand, staff at Hartley Library have announced their extended opening hours during the upcoming exam period, made possible by the Education Enhancement fund.

“From Monday 28th April – Friday 6th June, the Hartley Library will be open continuously every day of the week.

Saturdays are special, though – the Library will close at midnight, have a short break, refresh and open again on Sunday at 9:00 a.m., continuing throughout the week.

Register to vote in the EU elections

In General

The EU elections will take place 22 May, if you are eligible to vote you should by now have received a polling card and details on how to register. Still unsure how to proceed? Click here for a helpful run-down of the process. Registration closes 6 May, so make sure you have by then!

SUSU builds bridges in the community

On 26 March, students, representatives from the Highfield residents’ association and members of the local police force, met together for Building Bridges, a scheme aimed at strengthening ties between students and the wider Southampton community.

Main goals of the project include:

A campaign to raise awareness of crime prevention measures among students and families living in the area, to stop them becoming victims of crime.  This would involve the production of three newsletters, which would be delivered to every household in the area, a new website and a new social media campaign..

Union Films gets family friendly

In General

In a bid to cater for student parents studying at Southampton, plans are forming to bring family-friendly Union Films screenings to SUSU. The hope is that, in giving them the opportunity to meet and mingle, we will be able to foster a stronger community of mature students and their children.

The proposal has been well received so far and discussion is currently underway in the Southampton Mature Students group on Facebook.

Ideas brought up so far include:

  • The potential of a first screening on a weekend during the start of the Summer term, if not during the Easter holidays.
