Last week gave students the chance to vote on which ideas they’d like to see discussed at the upcoming SUSU
AGM. From banning Sabbatical Officers from rerunning to pitching the idea of keeping a SUSU kitten (and lion!)
almost 30 suggestions were made, giving students and trustees plenty to talk about at the general meeting. The
AGM will see the discussion of these student-submitted policies and the election of the Chair of Union Council.
The AGM will also see the approval of this year’s annual report, Trustees Report and a list of the Union’s

Continuing the campaign to end student poverty Union President David Gilani and VP Welfare Officer Beckie Thomas proposed the opening of a SUSU Job Shop.
Similar to the newly-opened Lettings Agency, this new addition to the Union’s services aims to help students to find part-time work in reputable companies as well as with SUSU and the University of Southampton itself (where possible), so that financial difficulties do not hold
students back from getting an education.
It has been proposed that the Union should prioritise advertising jobs from companies with ethical employment practices based on criteria identified by the SUSU

Following the ongoing “Vent About Your Rent” survey, devised by Union President David Gilani: for students to name-and-shame their lettings agency or landlord so as to identify Southampton’s 10 worst lettings agencies, the Union launched the infamous “Don’t Rush” campaign urging students not to hasten to sign housing contracts.
The campaign and survey were developed as a result of students decrying a range of issues with their student accommodation or landlord every year. So far, the survey and “Don’t Rush” campaign has reached over

From 7 – 9 April, Newcastle University will play host to the National Student Radio (NSR) Conference 2014.
