Students create Christmas cards for Contact the Elderly

20 handmade Christmas cards created by students are to be sent out to Contact the Elderly, a national charity dedicated to tackling loneliness  amongst older people living in the UK.

Contact the elderly estimate that 3.6 million older people in the UK live alone, with 2 million of these aged 75 or older. 1.9 million older people have said they often feel ignored or invisible, and two fifths of all older people say that the television is their main source of company.

Our You Are More Than campaign is back for January 2019. We have lots of activities planned, including free exercise sessions, and the best news of all… the Hearing Dogs are back! You can also grab some free soup and take advantage of our study and chill out spaces.

Autumn By-elections: Nominations Now Open

As well as our Halls Elections, we are also running by-elections for a select number of roles at the Union. If you want to make a difference on your course, at your faculty, or to represent a wider community of students, put your name forward!

Nominations are open from Monday 05 November at 09:00 – Thursday 22 November at 13:00.

How can the Union improve our campuses?

Our VP Student Communities, Emily Harrison, launched our Sites Survey this week to hear your feedback on how we can improve student life at Avenue and Boldrewood campuses, the National Oceanography Centre, Southampton General Hospital and the Winchester School of Art.

If you spend time studying at any of these campuses, whether it’s a full week or just a few hours, we want to hear from YOU! Whatever ideas you have about how they can be improved or how we can extend the Union’s presence there, let us know.

New Year, New Printing Costs

Hello everyone! Samuel Dedman here, your returning VP Education for 2018/19. I wrote a blog post a few months ago about the new managed print service coming to the University of Southampton, and left it with a promise of a later update about pricing. I’m pleased to say that this is that update, and it is all good news!

Countdown to WSA Summer Ball

The countdown is on to the WSA Summer Ball 2018, with just over two weeks until the big night! This year the theme is flower power garden party, so get those flower crowns at the ready to celebrate the start of summer and enjoy a fantastic night with your friends before final hand-ins.

Our headliners of the night are Black Water County, a local indie/folk band, and our DJ is third year Graphics student, Lukas Keysell. There will also be garden party games to take part in and win prizes!

WSA Free Fruit Fridays

Hi everyone, it’s Venny, WSA Campus President for 2017/2018.

It was fantastic to meet so many of you at our first Free Fruit Fridays last week. For those of you who haven’t heard about it, Free Fruit Fridays is a brand new initiative led by the WSA Committee, and it’s exactly what it sounds like – you’ll will receive free fruit from the Students’ Union and the Student Committee, no strings attached. This project will run fortnightly on Fridays, in the WSA Cafe from approximately 10:00 until 14:00, although it may finish sooner depending on when we run out … Read the rest

When does Freshers’ start?

We’re proud to offer not one, not two but three whole weeks of Freshers’! This begins on Welcome Weekend (Saturday 23 September/Sunday 24 September).

When do lectures begin?
