Content warning: mentions of rape.
After feeling uninformed of the support available to her at university, fourth-year student, Sarah teamed up with SUSU, SCA Society and MedSoc to introduce new consent workshops to the Faculty of Medicine.
“Unfortunately, during my years of university, I have been raped. When this happened, I felt alone and uninformed of the support available at university. I felt that educational systems had failed to educate my colleague on what consent means and how it applies to our lives,” says Sarah.
“I’ve now been able to find support at the Enabling Services which have allowed me

Hey there, it’s Arun Aggarwal, Vice President Student Communities for 2017/18. I wanted to take a moment to give a quick update about You Make Change, and the Union’s policy on breastfeeding on our campuses.
Before the Christmas holidays, we received a You Make Change submission regarding breastfeeding facilities across our campuses – specifically Highfield. We were informed that the current provisions were often oversubscribed or unsanitary/demeaning (e.g. toilets). To better understand the problem and come up with the most suitable options, I have worked closely with Lauren Coffin, a first year student parent, and our NOC Officer … Read the rest

Hi everyone, Flora here!
Today I want to talk about an issue that has come up in many different You Make Change submissions and conversations around campus – Amazon Lockers. You may have noticed that they also came up as an action item during the 2016/17 AGM, meaning that as a Union we are mandated to explore getting Amazon Lockers on campus.
The Story So Far:
Following six You Make Change submissions and the votes at the AGM, we have been talking to the University about the possibility of getting Amazon Lockers on campus. In our opinion many of … Read the rest

Hi everyone – it’s your friendly neighbourhood Union President here with an update on the laptop free zone in The Bridge!
We’ve had a lot of engagement through You Make Change submissions and social media about the laptop-free zone in the Bridge. It’s been so great to have so much feedback on an issue that really matters to students, and it means we can make better decisions that benefit you!
Therefore, from 01 November 2017, The Bridge will be a laptop-free zone between the hours of 11:00 and 14:00, a solution suggested in many of your You … Read the rest

So what’s happened since our last update?
Following the All Student Vote in October where you voted to keep the Union Southampton branding with the SUSU name and the recent ideas survey, we have been busy working on the logo redesign based on your feedback. Many of you said that you would like to see more colour on the building signage and a few of you expressed concerns about the cost of the rebrand previously. Therefore, we have been working with our Graphic Designers to come up with a series of logo designs in-house which you will be able to … Read the rest
