RAG AGM: Committee 2011/12 and 2010/11 fund raising total so far.

On 30th March RAG held their Annual General Meeting. The committee for 2011/12 were elected, and a breakdown of the money raised so far this year was given.

I am pleased to introduce you to the RAG Committee for 2011/12:

External Events Coordinator: Anjali Dwesar
Publicity Officer: Chloe Whitfield
Treasurer: Sarah Haig
Street Team Coordinator: Shannon Ainslie
Clubs and Societies Liaison: Philippa Symington
Social Secretary: Tom Fowler

Plus on April 1st Adam Moloney was elected by cross-campus ballot as RAG Officer for 2011/12.

The new committee will take over after a period of training and hand over, and once the accounts for 2010/11 have been completed.

The breakdown of the money raised by the students of Southampton so far this year is as follows:

– For RAG Charities 2010/11: £5497.20
At the end of the year the final total in this category will be shared equally between Practical Action, Help the Hospices and Southampton Opportunity Group.

– Money raised by RAG Committee for other charities: £1729.02
Including Barnardos, Children in Need, Comic Relief and Meningitis UK.

– Money raised by SUSU Clubs/Socs and other student groups: £23,799.73
This comes from 18 events run by different groups and includes an incredible £12,254.13 raised during MedSoc Charities Week, plus over £5000 raised for the British Red Cross Japan Tsunami appeal by Japanese Society, AISEC and Men’s Day.

This brings the fund raising total for the year so far to an amazing £31,025.95!

This is the total so far and will rise, with EnviroRAG Week (May 2nd-7th) hoping to raise at least £2500, and several other events planned for the rest of the semester. RAG is selling tickets for Beach Break Live at www.beachbreaklive.com/susurag, with all the commission going to the RAG charities.

The amount raised by SUSU Clubs/Socs and other student groups is particularly exciting, reflecting growing involvement of students in fund raising activities. As a point of comparison- the year total for 07/08 was approximately £28,000 and 08/09 was closer to £20,000. The final total for last year has not been confirmed by accounts yet, but the amount raised for RAG charities 09/10 was £6,600. So these figures show a fantastic increase in the amount of money being raised, as well as the number of students becoming involved!

I would like to say a huge thank you to all students who have helped achieve this total and to RAG Treasurer Sarah Latchford for keeping records that enable us to share this with you. The final year total will be reported as soon as we know it- probably around June time.
