SUSU Sabbs in Leeds: Part 4
Earlier today I met up with Ben and Mark, two of the Sabbs from Leeds, who gave a tour around their unbelievable Union.
We’ll be looking into incorporating the best ideas into our own Students’ Union – are there any that you think would be particularly cool?
Take a look at the photos below and let us know…

Leeds Students Union

I was in Leeds for a number of weeks earlier this year for business travel, and went to the university to see a student production after identifying someone wearing a promotional hoodie while I was doing shopping in the city centre. (Hoodies work for promotion, that is universal.)
Their use of what is effectively a sports hall with stage – it looked *very* “Glee”-esque, which didn’t work at all for the G&S they were performing there that night – was a sobering reminder of the importance to Soton of ensuring proper provision of performing space, a post-Annex strategy if you will. The presence of the Nuffield doesn’t count in my opinion, the PAU will be lucky to even get two shows a year out of it, even without the Annex to use.
Also notable and surprising was that the Union shop was open until late, and significantly larger than SUSU’s. (I bought a milkshake drink for the interval there, which I could not do at Soton.) For reference, they are also in the Nestle boycott, and proudly state as such in the shop.
On the pictures – I do like the transparency in spending and fundraising. That I would like to see more of in Soton.
