Dancing our Way to Success

Just before the easter break all of our dance societies headed up north and in true Southampton style they smashed it….

Jazz, Tap, Balet, Contemporary and Street (Hip Hop) took 57 dancers and headed up to the Loughborough University Annual Dance Competition! This year three of the squads placed (compared to just one last year) and Advanced Ballet won the best overall routine, even recieving an standing ovation from the Judging Panel!

Heres how we got on:

Advanced Jazz – 3rd Place

Advanced Tap – 3rd Place

Advanced Ballet – 1st Place – Best Overall Routine

In addition to this Ballroom and Latin hit up Blackpool’s 50th Intervarsity Dance Competition!

With 12 judges, 19 different categories, 14 different dances and 31 different Universities attending it is a huge affair.

Once again it was another sucsessful year for SUBLDS with everyone dancing amazingly in every category, including a special mention to the following individual results:

  • Gareth Ward and Mellissa Levitt- 3rd in Beginner Waltz and 2nd in Beginner Quickstep!
  • Peter Oleski and Claire Skilton – 5th in Beginner Cha Cha!
  • In Acrobatic Rock and Roll – Aneesa Sachak & Chris Power came 4th and Jason Beaumont and Michelle Heffer came 2nd!
  • Jonathan Borg and Catri Danauta came 2nd in Intermediate Latin!

We also had some good alumni results and in the team matches, our E Team placed 9th in Division 2 and our A Team 8th in Division 1.

But best of all was in the overall Univeristy ranking we placed 5th in the UK, the best result in living memory!

Right now is a good time for SUSU Performing Arts Dance raking it in across the board, and I would like to personally congratulate them all and keep up the good work!
