I’m sorry but who on earth decides these awards. Not to disrespect Sam Huish, I’m sure he’s very telented, but there were people put up for that same award who not only competed for 2 different AU Club 1st teams at a national but is also a Great Britain Captain in one of those sports and he doesn’t get a look in.
No wonder so many of the major AU clubs boycott the AU ball.

Tell me about it. Not quite on the same scale as GB captain but I have captained county and reional teams this year, got into the semis of a reigonal comp and scored a 5th and 8th place at national competitions. Yet the AU decided that I did not deserve half colours. It wouldn’t be so bad if people more deserving got them but sitting there hearing people who have recived them for far less was like pouring salt into the wound.

Hi Anon,
I’m not too sure if you saw all of the nominations but Sam Huish has been GB Captain, was also English Universities Captain, got 1st place in National competitions, multiple times represented Wales and capatined the rifle teams to 1st place in both BUCS Indoor and Outdoor championships.
So Sam Huish is very deserving of the award.
We get many nominations in and spend a long time deliberating so the committee can be sure that we’ve chosen the correct winners. Sometimes people may not agree but that’s mainly because they don’t see the other nominations either.
With so many nominees achieving incredible success within their sporting disciplines shows how high the standard of sport is here at Southampton. I have no problem justifying the winners of the awards as their nominations can be evidence of their success but I would appreciate it if this could be done over e-mail as I don’t want this blog to turn into a public forum for arguments
Thanks

Just wanted to say thanks Jonny for the recognition. You guys have an incredibly hard job choosing who’s going to win these awards and no way of keeping everyone happy. xxx

Hi Katie,
No problem. I think you deserve all the recognition you get for what you did and you are well deserving of the award 🙂
