Wonderful Welfare: Get involved, make a difference!
This Monday at 2pm in Meeting Room 2 (on Level 1 of SUSU [Building 42]) we’re going to be electing a number of positions on Welfare Committee.
Welfare Committee is one of the standing committees where we plan campaigns and events on issues affecting students. This ranges from supporting students to find private rented accommodation, starting new safety schemes, giving financial advice to raising awareness of mental health issues.
This year has been a fantastic year for Welfare Committee, with loads of events and campaigns being run by the Officers on the committee and making a real impact. 2 of the officers this year even won an Excellence in Volunteering Award!
The positions we will be electing are:
- Financial Health Officer
- Housing Officer
- LGBT Officer
- Mental Health Officer
- Sexual Health Officer
- Students with Disabilities Officer
- Student Safety Officer
- Substances (alcohol and drugs) Officer
- 2x Welfare Officer
Each of these Officers will lead on finding out what the issues are in their area, coming up with the best ways of tackling these issues and leading a team to run events or campaigns on that issue.
The two Welfare Officers will look into any issues not covered by the other Officers and will support the VP Welfare with any activities they are working on.
It’s a great committee, and it’s a fantastic opportunity to really make a difference and improve things for students here at the University.
So, if you think you could make a difference and care about any of these issues then come along to Welfare Committee on Monday 14th May at 2pm, have a short 30second talk prepared and we’ll vote to have you as an Officer on the Committee!
If you can’t make the Committee on Monday, that’s not a problem just write up a few words on why you’d like to go for the position and email it to me on firstname.lastname@example.org before 2pm on Monday!
If you think you might be interested, but you’re not quite sure and want to know more, please don’t hesistate to email me on email@example.com.
Looking forward to seeing you on Monday!
