Sport Relief 2014
At the very beginning of our Sabbatical year, Claire (VP Engagement) and I decided that we should bring our zones together to run a community based sports event that will raise money for charity (a tough ask!). So… we decided that we would like SUSU to be involved in this year SPORT RELIEF MILE.
We are very happy to announce that SUSU will co-host the Southampton Mile alongside Southampton Solent University, Saints Foundation and the Southampton City Council on Sunday 23rd March. The parties have come together to ensure that Southampton has a centrally run mile that anyone can participate, whilst celebrating the anniversary of Southampton’s City status.
It is the first time that the event falls within our term time and therefore the first time we can get our students not only participating in the run but managing it too. SUSU will focus on providing volunteers (event marshals), runners and live entertainment for the supporters. With the wide range of opportunities on offer, anyone can get involved – even if running isn’t your thing!
Whether you opt to run a mile or 6, perform on the day or help marshall the route, you can really help SUSU and Southampton to raise money for a very good cause.
This year a proportion of the money raised by this sport relief mile will go to Southampton’s Womens Aid – a chairty that last year helped 165 women through their outreach programme and are working to provide a range of support services and are excited to be working towards a strong future for domestic violence services in Southampton. It is a fun event that will showcase how community and sport can come together for a good cause. So please get involved in any way you can.
The cost to enter as a runner is £6 and you can sign up here: http://my.sportrelief.com/search/event/result?id=2945&location=southampton&event-type=run.
