Extending SUSU’s Opening Hours for Postgraduates

Over Christmas, I got some clear feedback from Postgraduate students that they wanted a few key changes to our opening hours of SUSU venues over the vacation periods… so that’s exactly what we’ve done!

shop productsUnlike most undergraduate students, postgraduates will often be working for the same hours over Easter, and so still need places to get food and drink and socialise on campus. These changes aren’t massive, but hopefully just make the lives of postgraduate students (and indeed any students still around over the vacation hours) just a little easier.

  • The SUSU Shop will be extending its opening hours on weekdays until 5:30pm, so that there is still time to pick up your supplies after “work hours”
  • We’ll also be stocking up the Stag’s with basic food, drinks and stationary (based on David Mendoza-Wolfson’s Brain Food from exam times) so that in the evenings and on weekends, you can still buy some core products
  • Finally, we’ll still be running the Postgraduate cake-and coffee each Thursday morning AND our weekly Postgraduate activities on Thursday evenings (that Oli Coles has helped organise) will continue as well.

If you have any other ideas about how SUSU’s opening hours could better facilitate student activities then the feedback is always useful, although obviously we can’t always be open in the quieter periods.

    Thank you!!!

The SUSU shop being open just that little bit longer will make all the difference, and it’ll be great to have the Stags open at weekends!

As the cafe will be shut, will the Bridge be serving breakfast in the morning? Is there any chance that the Bridge could stay unlocked when it’s not open so it’s still a usable space for socialising and meeting?

hehe no worries, Oli. I’m not sure about those questions about the Bridge, so I’ll ask about that right away and get back to you.

Hey Oli – I’ve just heard back from our catering manager, who says that the Bridge will be able to do breakfast in the mornings. We’ll also be selling some danishes from the Grab n Go (just outside the Bridge), so you can still get something in the morning, even if you’re in a hurry.

    Cheers

What about the facilities at the NOC?

Hey Ali, these changes only apply to SUSU facilities, as we have direct control over them and thus react to student feedback quickly.

For University or externally controlled facilities, such as those at NOC, we can suggest changes of hours, but don’t have the same direct control. I would recommend that you suggest any changes that would be helpful to you to Oli, our VP Student Communities, by emailing him on vpcommunities@soton.ac.uk

    Cheers
