O Hey There SUSU!

Here I am sat at my bright, shiny desk on Level 2 as your new VP Engagement as of 1st July, writing my first ever blog. What a fortnight it’s been!

We all travelled up to Bolton for Students Union 2014 conference last week and it was fab. “But how does this help us as students?!” I hear you cry…

  • We have all returned from the conference with some great new ideas for projects to enrich your life as a student:
For example, I am going to identify and endeavor to breakdown all the barriers to student volunteering in Southampton.
It’s big, it’s hairy, and very audacious but my goodness it’s exciting.
  • We did lots of networking  to steal share all manner of awesome ideas and share best practice with other Students Unions around the country.

“What are you currently working on?!”

I know you’re all dyyying to know…

  •  E-mails and sorting my head out!!
  • Meetings – Inc. loads about Fun Freshers stuff, exciting!
  • Making Vlogs (Video blogs) happen – you will never have to read anything to know what we’re up to here at SUSU, just sit back and watch. First one out around Aug 20th (tbc).
  • Thinking about initiatives to reduce litter during moving weekend around the 1st July. Here’s what Solent and Bristol do. Cool eh?! I’ve started investigating doing something similar here.
  • The MySouthampton App is going to have a SUSU section that is much easier to find and will contain up-to-date info… all from the comfort of your own phone.
  • Helping  the student groups in my area shout about all their amazing achievements – their trophies are in student houses gathering dust. This is wrong! They need to be celebrated.

On that note… we have given £10 000 to Enactus to fund an innovative project that benefits our local community! Click here to find out about other projects Enactus have done and how you can get involved.

” Great… What’s next?”

The General Elections are happening in 2015 and I am the sabb lead for this. We’ll put on as many events as possible to engage you in the process and to meet your local candidates so that you really know who they are and what they stand for.

RAG – We’re putting in a bid to host the RAG Conference 2015!! This is like hosting the Olympics for student fundraising and it’s gunna be great!

You are now up to scratch with pretty much everything in the busy head of your VP Engagement.

Here’s my favourite cat video.

Hi, I am about to start an MA in Textile Design in September at Winchester School of Art and I am looking for a room in a student house or to move in with other MA students. Is anyone looking for a place to live this year? Thank you.
