Autumn Elections; represent your fellow students!

Elections - Logo

Due to added interest in these Autumn Elections we have decided to push the date of nomination closure to Thursday 16th October at 12pm.

I’m sure most of you are aware that we are currently holding our Autumn Elections. Of which, lots of opportunities to represent your student body are currently available. You may have seen some flyers and posters around the Union and your halls of residence advertising that we are currently receiving nominations for Course Reps and JCRs, however, as well as these amazing opportunities we have some other positions that are open for you to run for.

Student Trustee

SUSU needs passionate, switched on individuals willing to offer their commitment to overseeing the work of the Students Union. In order to ensure a well-run, efficient and strong Union, from which elected officers can lead on programs that deliver the greatest impact to students, as a Student Trustee, you will be responsible for ensuring that SUSU complies with the law, with its own objectives, and with the policies agreed by its democratic structures. You provide a crucial role in safeguarding the financial stability, good name, culture and ethos of the Union, as well as actively contributing to its strategic direction.

Sports Participation Officer

The Sports Participation Officer takes the lead role in trying to increase participation in both AU and non AU sport at Southampton. Your role is to address issues affecting participation in sport and recreational activities University-wide. You will also undertake a number of schemes to engage with under-represented groups in the Athletic Union..

Outreach Officer

As Outreach Officer you will work with work to ensure that SUSU activity and services are accessible to students that are studying at our satellite sites, e.g. Basingstoke, Portsmouth, Isle of Wight. You will represent the interests of students locally and within the University and Union. The Outreach Officer will coordinate and support events and activities that are in the interests of satellite site students

Postgraduate (Taught) Student Officer

The Postgraduate Research and Taught Officers will work together to coordinate and organise events and activities for postgraduate students at Southampton.

Union Councillor

As a Union Councillor, you are responsible for making policy and holding officers to account, which primarily happens through the 6 Union Council meetings in the year. The role of Union Councillor gives you a chance to engage in discussion about the direction of SUSU, and ultimately in deciding its direction. Councillors also ensure that our Sabbaticals, Student Leaders and other voluntary officers are held to account for their actions and rewarded or scrutinised appropriately. You can nominate yourself now for one of the reflective positions, or stand for one of the seven open positions at the first Union Council of the year on Monday 20th October.

If you think you would like to nominate yourself for one of the above positions or as a Course Rep or a member of a JCR, head to the elections site:
