New shiny things!

It’s an exciting time at the Students’ Union, there are so many great new things happening! I’m going to tell you a little bit more about two of those things, the launch of our brand new recruitment agency, SURecruit and our very own student sustainability conference.

SURecruit – your Students’ Union Recruitment Agency

In March 2014 your student representatives in Union Council voted to pass a policy to create recruitment agency run by the Students’ Union – and we’re all incredibly proud to announce that SURecruit will be launching shortly!

Head to the SURecruit website to register your interest, or the Facebook page to find out more about the service. They will be able to help you out finding a part-time job in the local area while you study, but also gain experience with things like interviews and writing a CV. A lot of the jobs are expected to be in the hospitality, care and retail sectors , with the chance to gain a broad range of experience. You’ll soon be able to find SURecruit on the right as you walk into the Students’ Union (Building 42).

Over the past few years we’ve been putting together the BEES project (Business Ethics & Environment Students), which gives students the opportunity to work with local businesses to help them become more sustainable. The ‘Students and Businesses Transforming their City’ conference on Tuesday 15th September is your chance to learn more about this project, what we have learnt and how students can work in partnership with other organisations. It’s completely free and promises to be a really interesting day, so sign up here by 9am on Monday 14th September.

Knowledge of sustainability issues and skills are increasingly important for employers looking to employ recent graduates, so attending events like this is a great way to gain experience and boost your CV! There will be interactive sessions and workshops, speakers as well as the chance to network.
