Wide Lane Drainage
Over the past few years, drainage at Wide Lane Sports Ground has been a massive issue and has been affecting both Athletic Union and Intramural fixtures. This issue has been mentioned in many VP Sports Development manifestos (my own included) and also raised with Sport and Wellbeing many times.
HOWEVER, all of the work of past VP Sports Developments has not fallen on deaf ears! This year, I have worked with Sport and Wellbeing and Estates and Facilities and I can now announce that, this summer, the worst affected pitches will be having drainage put in/repaired. This work will be started before the end of July.
It is not yet confirmed how many pitches will have the work done this year, and I will be working to ensure that as many as possible do receive this much needed infrastructure. As more details are passed on to me, I will of course update you all.
I will also be continuing to work with the University to try to secure promises that the remainder of the pitches will also have drainage put in over the coming years. I have a meeting with the Vice-Chancellor next week where I will be addressing the drainage issues along with concerns over the current membership system and securing more University support for Team Southampton.
