Inspiring Stories from Inspiring Women

It’s International Women’s Week from Monday 7th March to Friday 11th March and we’ve got two great events lined up to celebrate.

Inspiring Women – Monday 7th March, 18:30 to 21:30 in The Bridge

The annual Inspiring Women event returns to SUSU on Monday 7th March. This FREE event kicks off International Women’s Week – with the aim to inspire you to become a leader in your field and achieve your ambitions. This year we have an incredible line-up of speakers telling their stories with the opportunity for questions and discussion.

REGISTER NOW for a free glass of wine or soft drink on arrival, there will also be FREE canapes and the bar will be open all evening.

This year’s line-up includes:

Lynne Parker

Lynne has a background in journalism, PR and comedy. Lynne campaigns for gender equality and her company Funny Women has helped to launch the careers of many female comedians we know and love today.

Emma Smithwick

Emma has over 10 years’ experience working in the film and television industry. Emma has produced and written for mainstream TV BBC and Channel 4, notably executive producing the popular TV series Hollyoaks.  

Paula Claisse

Paula leads KPMG’s South Coast tax services and is Head of Retail for the South. Paula is also a non-executive director for the Mayflower Theatre in Southampton.

Eloise Hawkins

Eloise has excelled in the field of retail buying. Eloise started her career in Halfords before moving to become the Lead Bedrooms Buyer for B&Q.

We have a selection of Inspiring books recommended by our speakers which will be raffled off during the night. All proceeds will be going to Southampton Women’s Aid. Student societies  Femsoc, Robogals and Women In Buisness will be there on the night showcasing the work of their society and how you can get involved.

International Women’s Week Researchers’ Cafe – Friday 9th March, 18:30 to 20:00 in Bar 2 (Level 2 of Building 42)

We are also hosting a special edition International Women’s Week Researchers’ Café with the University on Friday 9th March in Bar 2. Professor Nyovani Madise, the University’s Lead for Equality and Diversity, will open the event, and then in the usual informal format of the Researchers Café, attendees will choose from three topics and you are free to just listen or join in the discussion.

The speakers of the evening are:

Professor Nyovani Madise, the University’s Lead for Equality and Diversity

Dr Giulia Felappi, discussing the problem of male-dominated syllabi in Higher Education

Sarah Smyth, discussing her PhD topic, Women In Film

 

FREE tea, Coffee and biscuits will be served and the bar will be open throughout.
