Culture Festival

Between 24-30th April, we will be celebrating Culture Festival, a week long
festival packed with events and activities for both UK and international students. The week aims to give UK students the chance to discover different cultures and to offer our international student population the opportunity to showcase their cultural traditions.

A full timetable will be released to keep  you in the loop with what’s going on, but for now, you can expect:

  • Holi Festival

Forget the Colour Run, Holi Fest is a Hindu spring festival celebrated in Nepal and India to represent the sharing of love through colours. Traditionally, the celebrations begin the evening before Holi with what is known as a ‘Holika Bonfire’, where people gather, sing, dance and party. The next day, there is a colour carnival called the ‘Rangwali Holi’. This is a mass colour-fest with an opportunity to cover yourselves and others with dry powder and coloured water. People chase each other, bring water pistols and colour-filled water balloons to really get into the spirit!

In collaboration with India Society, we will be recreating something similar at the Students’ Union. Tickets will go on sale soon and are £3 for members of India Society and £4 for all other students. Tickets include a free t-shirt and paint powder. There will also be traditional food and drink on sale.holi-feast-3
