Shift Your Stuff 2016
Shift Your Stuff is back for a second year, helping you to give your unwanted items a new home when you move out.
We’ve all been there, moving out of your house and having loads of stuff you just can’t take with you. Instead of going to waste or disrupting the community, we want to help you donate these items to a good cause. Since last year we’ve been hard at work making the process smoother, working with students and academics at the University. Don’t forget to Vent About Your Rent now and you could win a month’s rent!
Step One: Collect your stickers and a bag
Available from 31 May until 29 June from the Union’s Highfield reception, Avenue Campus reception and the NOCS Student Centre.
Step Two: Pack your stuff
Sort your items into the categories below and put into separate bags labelled with the stickers provided. Make sure your items are in a good, clean condition and use boxes for any heavier items like books or kitchenware.
● Clothes and footwear (yellow)
● Other textiles, bed linen and duvets (red)
● Kitchen utensils (purple)
● Homeware (orange)
● Unopened tinned and dried food (blue)
● Books, discs, games and jewellery (black)
(We don’t accept sharp knives, liquids or perishable foods, electronics and bulky items!) Southampton City Council offers a bulky waste collection service for a fee.
Step Three: Shift your stuff!
If you live in the collection area below, leave your bag outside your house to be picked up from your doorstep and request your collection here. Bags must be outside before 11:00 on Friday 10 June and Thursday 30 June, and make sure your red bag is easy to see (although you can use other traditional black bags with the stickers too alongside a red bag). Bags without visible stickers will not be collected. You can also bring your stuff down to the red bins at the Union reception (B42) from Thursday 2 June.
Request a collection here if you live within the collection area.
